Unstaked SOL not back in your wallet? Deactivated stake accounts explained
Staked SOL sits in a separate stake account, not in your main balance. That is why unstaking does not put SOL straight back into your wallet. It takes two steps.
- Deactivate. The stake winds down at the end of the current epoch, which lasts about two days.
- Withdraw. You then move the SOL from the stake account back to your wallet.
If the second step never happens, the SOL stays in the stake account. It is safe, but it earns nothing and it does not appear in your spendable balance.
How to withdraw
Open the staking section of the wallet that controls the stake account, such as Phantom or Solflare, find the deactivated account and choose Withdraw. You pay a very small network fee.
Only the stake account's withdraw authority can do this. That is normally the wallet that created it, but it may not be if the stake came through an exchange or a custody service.
How to tell which state you are in
- Active: earning rewards. Nothing is wrong.
- Deactivating: wait for the epoch to end.
- Deactivated: withdraw it whenever you like.
- Not delegated: the SOL inside is idle and can be withdrawn.
You can look up stake accounts for your address on a Solana explorer.
Check your own wallet
Find your Solana stake accounts with StuckScan. It is free and read-only: you paste a public address, with no wallet connection and no signing. It shows what it checked on each chain, and anything it could not check is listed as such.
Never share your seed phrase or private key. Nobody legitimate needs them to help you, and BOTLAB never charges a fee to "recover" funds.
